Ultherapy® is the first-ever non-invasive ultrasound device approved for aesthetics, which combines ultrasound imaging with focused ultrasound therapy to provide reliable noninvasive lifting of the skin.

  • This is the first and only energy-based device for aesthetics to receive an indication for lift from the FDA.

  • This is the first and only in-office aesthetics device that enables visualization of tissue beneath the skin's surface, using time-honored ultrasound.

  • This is the first and only non-surgical procedure to be able to focus energy at prescribed depths that enable significant lifting of skin tissue.

Ultherapy® is a new category of treatment because it combines visualization beneath the skin's surface and precise delivery of ultrasound energy to reliably and significantly lift the skin and tighten its underlying support.

  • With over 2,000 patients treated worldwide, Ultherapy® has been shown to produce significant lifting of lax skin.

  • In the pivotal trial, noticeable improvement occurred in nearly 9 out of 10 patients (86%) resulting in less hooding or skin laxity on the upper eyelid and a more open, refreshed appearance overall.

  • Study patients noted lifting, tightening and firming in other areas of the face and neck as well, such as the cheeks and along the jawline.

  • Results developed gradually over a 90-day period following treatment and were still noticeable in patients assessed at 10 months after treatment.

  • Ultrasound energy is delivered to the desired depths below the surface of the skin, while leaving the top layers including the epidermis completely unaffected.

  • The face and neck procedure triggers the body's natural healing response, resulting in new and improved collagen, which gradually tightens and lifts the skin tissue over time.

  • Regeneration of supportive collagen fibers can help the skin hold up against future gravitational effects.

  • Because it affects the deep layers of tissue, it is compatible with other cosmetic procedures addressing more superficial issues.

Ultherapy® is further developing its DeepSEE™ technology platform for a host of additional applications that are valued by patients and clinicians worldwide.

  • The Ultherapy System affords an incremental measure of control through its imaging and programmable depth of energy deposition that will have relevance to other indications.

  • Additional clinical trials are currently being pursued to leverage the breadth of medical and aesthetic applications for the Ultherapy System.

Ultherapy Fact Sheet

About the Ulthera™ Treatment

  • Ultherapy® is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure that uses tried-and-true ultrasound for tightening and lifting lax skin, an inevitable issue and common complaint.

  • Brow descent is one of the first effects of aging on the skin, and clinical studies with Ultherapy® have revealed, after just one treatment, a consistent lifting of the brow. This is meaningful because it leads to less eyelid skin laxity and “hooding” of the eye and a more “open” look that contributes to a more refreshed look overall. Surgery is still a viable option, but now not the ONLY option.

  • Patients also reported firming, tightening and actual lifting in other areas of the face and neck. The skin on the cheeks, along the jaw line, and under the chin can be gently shifted back into position in order to create a more defined jawline and more youthful overall contour.

  • Current treatments address forehead, mid-face and/or lower face and neck laxity, with most procedures taking no more than 30-40 minutes.

  • Patients have experienced no downtime related to the procedure. There may be slight blushing or redness for up to 2 hours following treatment, and a small percentage of patients may have slight bruising, which resolves within a couple of weeks following treatment.

  • As with exercising to build muscle, the building of new collagen to tone, tighten and lift the skin occurs gradually over the weeks and months that follow treatment (unlike working out, however, just one or two treatments are required).

  • The creation of new Ultherapy-induced collagen inherently enhances the vitality of the skin.

  • It is anticipated that an annual maintenance treatment may be desired to help keep pace with the aging process.

Who is the Ultherapy Patient?

  • Those not ready for surgery (chronologically, psychologically, economically or logistically)

  • Those wanting to extend the time between surgeries

  • Trendsetters wanting the latest advance in skin rejuvenation

  • Those who want a quick “anytime” procedure

  • Those looking for an entry-level procedure to refresh their appearance

  • Those wanting to “stay ahead of the game” by maintaining healthy collagen

About the Ulthera™ System

  • The Ulthera™ System utilizes focused ultrasound energy for tightening and actually lifting lax skin without disrupting the surface of the skin.

  • The Ulthera™ System, combining both ultrasound imaging and ultrasound thermal energy therapy, is in a class of its own—there is no precedent for it in the aesthetics industry.

  • It is the first energy-based device cleared by the FDA with an indication for “lift.”

  • It is the first time medical ultrasound, which physicians and patients have trusted for decades, has been used for a non-invasive aesthetic procedure.

  • Ulthera's DeepSEE™ technology allows physicians in aesthetics, for the first time, to now both see below the surface of the skin and treat the deep support structures of connective tissue below the skin—without surgery.

  • The company has elected to take a methodical approach to placing systems around the country, and our site is one of the first to have the device.

How the DeepSEE™ Technology Works

  • Clinicians first visualize the tissue layers beneath the skin's surface to plan precisely where they will be delivering ultrasound energy.

  • Ultrasound energy is delivered deep below the skin's surface in a significant yet non-invasive way. The nature of “focused” ultrasound is that acoustic energy is benign except at the focal point where sound waves come together. Therefore, superficial layers of skin are not affected and the deeper targeted plane gets a concentrated dose of energy.

  • The sound waves heat the tissue, which in turn initiates the body's natural regenerating response. This results in new and improved collagen support and a gradual lifting, tightening and firming of skin over time.
